Caravan and vehicle weights explained

A quick guide to explain Caravan and vehicle weights.

 

GVM – (gross vehicle mass) This is the maximum allowable amount that your vehicle can weigh, including all passengers, payload, and accessories. (It also includes the tow ball mass if you tow a trailer/caravan.)

GCM – (gross combination mass) This is the maximum allowable amount that both your vehicle and trailer/caravan can weigh when coupled together. It includes all passengers and payload in the vehicle and all payload in the trailer/caravan.

TBM – (tow ball mass) This is the weight applied to the tow ball or hitch of the vehicle by a trailer/caravan. (It must be included when measuring the GVM of any tow vehicle.)

GTM – (gross trailer mass) This is the maximum allowable weight of any trailer/caravan measured at the wheels whilst connected to a tow vehicle.

ATM – (aggregate trailer mass) This is the maximum allowable weight of any trailer/caravan measured whilst disconnected from a tow vehicle.
